Once again, I overcame my fear of heights, this time to try the elevated (literally) Japanese restaurant @sora45mtl.
A short, but by no means simple, menu of expertly created, prepared, and beautifully presented items, each of which was deliciously above our expectations.
We started with wonderful cocktails as we watched the sun set from above the city. The view, the music, and the amicable service set the tone for a great evening.
We ordered three-quarters of the very creative, exquisite maki, of which we most enjoyed the standouts:
- Kampachi: ponzu, marinated cucumber, and a ginger and jalapeño cream. Incredible.
- Pork chasu: 8-hour braised pork belly. So tender and savory.
After this experience, a reasonable question to ask is: Would I return?
Unfortunately, my answer is no.
Why? Because I am not a paid influencer, I was not invited, and I spent almost half a week’s salary (tax and tip included) on 23 pieces of sushi, five cubes of pork, and two cocktails.
While the food, atmosphere, and service were all beyond excellent, I had to stop on my way home for more food because it was not even close to filling. I do not have a particularly big appetite either. I do not regret the experience, but if I’m being honest, it is not worth the average person’s money in this economy, sadly.
