Pizza Donini

Pizza Donini

Rating: 9 out of 10.

No, this is not a trick. This is a real, functional Pizza Donini. It’s in the West Island on Sources Boulevard, and when we heard about it, we had to take a trip down memory lane and try it out.

Walking in and smelling the distinctive Donini sauce and toppings (especially the peppers) instantly brought back memories of picking one up on Friday nights on our way back from the video store. But the mental return to simpler times didn’t end there.

The all-dressed pizza is exactly as we remembered it: a perfect  topping-to-crust ratio, cheesy, with just the right amount of sauce. We can’t believe it hasn’t changed at all. We are very happy about this, as this specific type of straightforward, classic pizza seemed to be less popular lately—almost extinct, even.

We also ordered the Québécoise (which is a new order for us here), and it is even better than we imagined it would be, with large, real, perfectly crispy bacon pieces.

They were both pretty filling. A medium goes a long way.

We won’t lie; we didn’t expect much. We foresaw the disappointment of an unsatisfying reboot, but we were pleasantly surprised. We sincerely hope they open more franchises and perhaps restore some of its former glory (according to their website, there seem to be plans). We encourage you to give in to the sentimental yearning for nostalgia and reacquaint yourself with an old favorite.
