Café du Monde is not just a trendy tourist attraction ; look closer and you will find a beautiful example of the rich history of Louisiana. From the importation of coffee in the region by French immigrants in the 17th century, to new recipes developed by New Orleanian Creoles during the Civil War era (mixing chicory with their café au lait), stopping at the introduction of beignets by the Cajun (Nova Scotia Acadians) in the 18th century – this simple meal can easily blow you away.

Tip: Go to the Café in City Park. Not only will you see some beautiful sceneries, there is also the Museum of Art, the Sculpture Garden, the Botanical Garden, and wildlife. It is also the one with the closest beignets recipe to the original.

(We also had fun following the powdery white sugar trails that incriminate all of the café’s patrons 😅)
