Ghost Kitchens

Ghost Kitchens

Rating: 6 out of 10.

We thought spooky season was the perfect time to visit a ghost kitchen 👻.
This is a case of “We tried it, so you don’t have to”.
Since we got food from 7 out of the 13 available restaurants, our review and score are based on the overall experience and concept rather than the quality of the food itself.

First, the positives: We enjoyed being able to order from several restaurants at once and trying different types of cuisine, all from the same place in a single order.
This particular ghost kitchen offered dine-in and takeout options as well.

Now, the negatives: Limited customer interaction and feedback—without a physical presence, restaurants miss out on the chance to connect with customers and obtain valuable insights that could enhance their offerings.
Ghost kitchens generate more packaging waste.
The packaging for delivery limits how beautifully the food can be presented (which makes taking nice pictures more difficult).
Finally, restaurants already have tight profit margins, but ghost kitchens add the cost of packaging and delivery fees.

Despite enjoying the novelty and convenience of trying multiple restaurants in one, we believe these types of kitchens not only reduce the passion, creativity, art, and overall culinary and customer experience but also the quality of the items and the service. Easier is not necessarily better.
