We drove down to Pointe-Saint-Charles and visited a classic casse-croûte established in 1958. With a vintage decor and tabletop jukebox machines (which we got Rick Rolled by 😂).
We heard good things about their poutine and they have “patates” in their name so obviously, we had to start there.
Impeccable fries with the slightest crunch to them. A classic sauce that doesn’t try too hard to be special and reinvent the dish. Cheese at the perfect temperature before being added so it doesn’t melt but also isn’t cold… This Poutine is pure. Flawless.
The Hot dogs were the ideal size in our opinion, big enough for 2 to be filling and somehow tastes fresher than hotdogs usually do; we’re not sure if that’s due to the bread or the sausage itself.
We loved the food and the look but what’s really special and unique about @paulpatates is their homemade spruce beer! A recipe from 1898 – We didn’t know spruce beer could taste that good. Very different and much better than the run-of-the-mill grocery store soda type were used to. We don’t even know how to describe the taste as we’ve never had something like this before. Basically; it tastes like Christmas. But, you’ll just have to go try for yourself!
