Daddy Roll

Daddy Roll

Rating: 9 out of 10.

After months of building a near-mythical reputation through ultra-limited, twice-a-week pop-ups—and spawning those serpentine lines curling down St-Laurent—@mtl_daddy_roll has finally opened a permanent home. And judging by the crowd, they’ve simply traded pop-up chaos for full-time frenzy.

We learned this the… determined way. Three separate visits before we caught a glimpse of available buns—and even then, only a third of the menu had survived the morning rush. At that point, the obvious question practically iced itself onto the counter: Are these cinnamon buns really worth the hype?

In short: they’re excellent.
The buns are impressively moist—luxuriously so—and somehow stay that way for hours. The flavours don’t tiptoe; they arrive bold, fragrant, indulgent. And each bun is generously sized, making the $6.50 price tag feel fair, even justified.

We genuinely loved them. We would go back.
But will we? Honestly… probably only if we’re already in the neighbourhood and feeling lucky.

Because here’s the truth from the perspective of a regular customer (not an influencer who materializes at opening, skips the line, and magically receives the entire flavour lineup) : having to show up three times in two days just to snag a partial menu is incredibly irritating. It’s hard to rave about something when scarcity becomes part of the experience.

One day, once stock and demand find their rhythm, the pilgrimage might feel more reasonable. But for now? No cinnamon bun on earth is worth driving 25 minutes out of our way for a “maybe”. We’re thrilled for their well-earned success—but let’s keep it real.

Delicious, yes. Beautifully crafted, absolutely.
But a cinnamon bun should be a treat, not a trial.
